CYTOXICITY

a) MTT test
The MTT test is based on the ability of the compound MTT (tetrazolium salt, [3 -(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) to be metabolised by the mitochondrial succinate dehydrogenase enzyme, and therefore constitutes a good marker for the health status of the cellular and mitochondrial dehydrogenases. The reduction of MTT leads to the formation of crystals of a blue product, formazan, which is insoluble in water, whose amount is proportional to the number of viable cells present.
Execution time is 30 (thirty) business days from the arrival of the product at our facility.
b) NRU assay
The NRU assay is based on the ability of a Neutral Red (NR) dye to accumulate in the cytoplasmic lysosomes through a method of active transport that requires the integrity of cell membranes. The test is therefore able to provide information on cell membrane integrity and, indirectly, on cell viability, thus providing an excellent assessment of the cytotoxic potential of the substances being analysed.
