MUCOADHESION

When a mucous membrane comes into contact with harmful or irritating substances, these may penetrate the membrane, leading to severe degenerative effects. For this reason, the administration of substances with mucoadhesive properties, which can serve as additional barriers for the mucosa, can help to protect the mucous membranes from the risk of such attacks. In order to evaluate the mucoadhesion of products to be used for the treatment of the mucous membranes, an assessment of the percentage of inhibition of the binding of specific proteins is performed. For this experimental model, cells from the oral and vaginal mucosa are used.
